On a golf club's graphite shaft, what does "4.5 degrees" refer to?
I recently got a Cobra Baffler DWS 4/R hybrid, and on the shaft is the usual specs like "stiff flex, mid kick, 65g", then it says "4.5 degrees". What does the 4.5 degrees refer to?
First, this has nothing at all to do with the "ANGLE OF HEAD TO GROUND", what a ridiculous answer. If people don't know the answer they shouldn't just guess and pretend that the answer is accurate. Either find the correct answer or just move on.
Anyway, the 4.5° refers to the torque rating of the shaft, it's ability to resist twisting during the downswing. Most steel shafts have very little torque related twisting, but it can be an issue with graphite shafts, dependent on the type of graphite used and the manufacturing process that creates the shaft.
A stiff shaft indicates that you have a fast swing, so you don't want more than 4° to 4.5° of torque, so your shaft falls within those parameters.
